This post will guide you to add a backlink to the original source in your WordPress feed footer. There are tons of tools and plugins that allow anyone to publish the contents from your blog to their blogs via your RSS feed. This process is automatic. Suppose ten blogs are re publishing your articles. It will create the duplicate content issue for the major search engines like Google. One thing your mind may strike that why not to hide the Feed URL of our blogs? Unfortunately, Feed URL is not a private URL so anyone can find your RSS feed URL. The default RSS feed URL for self hosted WordPress blog is www.domain.com/feed/. You may setup FeedBurner feed for your WordPress blog, and also you can redirect the existing WordPress feed to the FeedBurner feed.
Another thing, do not display the full content into your RSS feed so that when someone re-published your articles, only published the excerpt. In that case, you have a full article, and your re-published article has some excerpt so all the credit goes to your article. In addition, you may generate some decent traffic to your blogs when someone re-published your articles, and getting back a dofollow backlink to the original source. It will protect the copied content issue, and getting free dofollow backlinks too. Therefore, here is how to add blog post and homepage link in RSS feed footer.
Show Post Excerpt and Add Blog Post & Home Page Links to WordPress Feed
This is an optional step to show your post summary in your RSS feed. I recommended you to do that. Go to WordPress admin panel » Settings » Reading, and choose summary as mention in the following image.Now, go further for adding a backlink to the original source in your WordPress feed. Follow the simple steps mention below,
If you are using SEO by Yoast plugin (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-seo/),
- Go to WordPress admin panel » SEO » RSS, you will see two options, content to put before each post in the feed, and content to put after each post in the feed. So you can decide where to put your content. I am using to display the content after each post in our feed. Edit “Content to put after each post” with “Read more %%POSTLINK%% on %%BLOGLINK%%.” Here %%POSTLINK%% is a link to the post, with the title as anchor text, and %%BLOGLINK%% is a link to your site, with your site’s name as anchor text. Finally, click on “Save Settings“.
If you’re not using SEO by Yoast plugin,
- Install and activate RSS footer plugin to your WordPress blog, and edit the footer option as I mentioned above.
