If you want to submit of your sitemap to major search engines, such as in Google, Bing and Yahoo, you have to generate your sitemap for your WordPress blog. However, Google and Bing bots automatically crawl your WordPress content, and indexed in the search, if your links are coming from the sources that are already indexed. However, you can easily tell to search engines about your content so that they can easily find your content, and could index. Whenever, you publish any post to your WordPress blog they will be shown in your WordPress sitemap. - You can directly check your last sitemap processed date.
How To Submit Sitemap To Google Webmaster Tools
- Sign into Google Webmaster Tools by your Gmail account.
- Verify your WordPress blog with Google Webmaster Tools. If your blog has verified then skip this step.
- From the homepage, click on the URL of your WordPress blog for which you want to submit the sitemap.
- As shown in the image below,click on Optimization » Sitemaps » ADD/TEST SITEMAP, and type your sitemap XML file URL. Your XML file may be different from us so check back your sitemap XML URL from your WordPress admin panel or type the full path of your sitemap into the browser and hit hinter to see it is right or not. You may test your sitemap before its submission into webmaster tools. Once you have tested and everything OK, then submit it. Now, refresh the page.
- Now, you can see your submitted and indexed pages here. Since, you recently submitted your sitemap so you will see only the submitted statistic while you can check back it after two to three days, you would see the total number of your indexed pages.
WordPress Sitemap Submission in Yahoo & Bing webmaster Tools
Yahoo has merged site explorer to Bing webmaster tools so if you submitted your sitemap to Bing via webmaster tools your site will be indexed in Yahoo too. Therefore, here is how to submit WordPress sitemap to Bing and Yahoo.
- Sing into Bing Webmaster Tools by Windows LiveID.
- Skip this step, If you have verified your WordPress blog with Bing webmaster tools.
- From the homepage, click on the URL of your WordPress blog for which you want to submit the sitemap.
- As shown in the image below,Click on Crawl » Sitemaps (XML, Atom, RSS) » Add Feed, a pop up menu will prompt you to add the path of your XML file, so type the path of your XML file, and finally click on Submit.
- Now, you can see the status, type, last crawled date, and total number of URLs submitted, check back after some days to see your data what does Bing see.
